Hi, and welcome to the February issue of the Harley-Davidson®
e-Zine
Although many parts of the UK are still covered in a blanket of snow, I'm already thinking about the start of the riding season - roll on springtime! And, to help you through the "winter blues", we've just launched two exciting new initiatives to get you focussed on getting back out on your Harley-Davidson® motorcycle.
Our highly successful demo ride campaign kicks off in April - but you can get ahead by reserving your slot, online, from Monday 1 March. We trialled the four-week event last year, and it proved extremely popular, so don't miss out! You even go into a special prize draw to win a Harley® motorcycle, just by taking part. Check out the full details in this issue of the e-Zine or online at www.harley-davidson.com.
Meanwhile, if you're looking to start the riding season in style, why not think about upgrading your current motorcycle to a new Harley®? We're currently running an attractive trade-in deal at our authorised dealerships. We're even offering up to an additional £900 over and above any motorcycle's part exchange price, whether it's a Harley® or not. Full details can be found in the e-Zine or at your local Harley-Davidson showroom.
For the organised motorcyclists among you, I'm sure you've already planned your first riding trips of the season. However, sometimes ad-hoc Sunday afternoon ride-outs can be as memorable as longer tours that have been organised with military precision! Why not try something different this weekend, whether it's a trip to the coast with friends or a shorter ride around the countryside?
In addition, as we head into a new season, there are always lots of great new Harley-Davidson® products to look forward to. The Spring collection of MotorClothes® has a vibrant, edgy and bold look and the range includes new takes all the usual jackets, sweatshirts and gloves, with some unusual accessories too...
I look forward to seeing you, and your new kit, out on the road.
Ride safe,

To mark the roll out of its market-leading online test ride booking system, Harley-Davidson UK is offering UK and Irish motorcyclists the opportunity to win a motorcycle worth more than £15,000...
All riders who complete an online booking and fulfil a demo ride at an authorised dealership between Friday 9 April and Monday 3 May will be entered into a free prize draw for a new-for-2010 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy® Special motorcycle.
The booking system was successfully trialled last year as part of the Judgement Days campaign to encourage riders to challenge their preconceptions of Harley-Davidson and its motorcycles. More than 4,000 test rides were booked online in 2009 and this looks set to increase in 2010 now that the facility is available for all 365 days of the year.
As a permanent fixture on the testrides.harley-davidson.co.uk website from 1 March 2010, online booking enables motorcyclists to view available bikes at each dealership and complete a test ride booking right the way through to confirming a date and time slot. It's designed to put the customer first and allows riders to book the test ride they want, when they want it from the comfort of their home or work.
The system is designed to present information on the current Harley-Davidson range in a simple and uncomplicated way, while operating 24/7 to cater for motorcyclists who are unable to visit a dealership to make a booking or find it inconvenient to take dealer calls during work hours.
All motorcyclists - even those who have never previously contemplated riding a Harley - can enjoy a free, no-obligation test ride of a variety of Harley-Davidson® motorcycles, including models from the all-new 2010 range. Highlights include the Electra Glide® Ultra Limited touring machine, chopper-style Dyna® Wide Glide®, race-inspired XR1200X™, factory-custom XL Forty-Eight™ and limited-edition CVO models.

The XR750-inspired XR1200 provides an exciting opportunity with an all-new one-make series at selected rounds of the 2010 British Superbike Championship...
Since the January issue of the Harley-Davidson e-Zine, we're pleased to announce a further five dealer teams to the XR1200® Trophy, including Riders of Bristol and Bridgwater, Leeds Harley-Davidson, Shaw Harley-Davidson, Stratstone Harley-Davidson and Guildford Harley-Davidson. These new entries take the total grid size to 20!
Kicking off at Oulton Park on 1-3 May, the series, which is officially supported by Harley-Davidson UK and Ireland, is designed to showcase the performance capabilities of the XR1200 motorcycle. Development riders, including experienced British motorcycle racers Niall Mackenzie, Sean Emmett and Matt Llewellyn, have all been impressed by the XR1200's performance on track, and their positive feedback has set the scene for what is expected to be a series packed with close and exciting racing.
With the first official test for the 2010 British Superbike Championship (BSB) and its support classes looming closer, many XR1200 Trophy competitors are looking forward to the first opportunity for testing their race bike at the official BSB test at Brands Hatch on 17 March. The Harley-Davidson® Rider's Edge® Academy offers numerous courses for new riders. If you know someone who is looking to obtain their motorcycle licence, or someone who wants to get back to biking after a long break, here's how the training school can help...
New rider and refresher programmes
New rider course (6/7 days)
The Rider's Edge new rider course is especially designed for people who have never ridden before or who already have some basic motorcycling experience. The concise six or seven-day programme is designed to take the non-rider or novice from the absolute beginning right through to part one and part two tests.
The course covers everything from Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) through to taking the test on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
We begin the course with the CBT. This is a legal requirement that we all have to complete before we can ride on the road. It covers some of the basic manoeuvres and helps in the early stages to build that all important confidence. This also sets out the foundation stones for the rest of the course.
As your confidence grows, your experienced Rider's Edge instructor will help you develop the skills required to complete some of the more complex manoeuvres. These all important skills will not only ensure that you are fully equipped and ready for the tests taken at the end of the course, but will give you the confidence to ride any Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the range and be fully prepared to ride on the open road.
The programme is designed to help riders develop all-round competence and confidence.
Refresher course - Back to biking (3 days)
If you already have a motorcycle licence but it's been a while since you've ridden, then the three-day Back to Biking course is just for you. It can be very daunting coming back into biking, being faced with much larger and a great deal faster and more powerful motorcycles.
We know that the skills are in there somewhere and at Rider's Edge we have a dedicated bunch of instructors who know how to work with your own unique learning curve, knowing the importance of slowly building your confidence as your hidden skills once again begin to develop.
It won't be long before the distant memories of those long ago feelings come back to the fore. Along the way we not only rekindle these dormant skills but also, with the help of your Riders Edge instructor, develop the more advanced skills to give you the tools and confidence to deal with the modern motorcycle in today's surroundings.
For more information about either of these two courses or any other of the courses the Rider's Edge® Academy has to offer, please visit www.ridersedge.co.uk or call 0871 641 2207.
Next month we will look at corporate days and bespoke programmes.

Freestyle motocrosser Seth Enslow will attempt to make history and break the existing record of 157 feet for a successful long distance jump aboard a Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. The world record was first benchmarked by Evel Knievel in 1975 and recently set by Bubba Blackwell in 1999.
Enslow will attempt the jump aboard a modified Harley-Davidson XR1200® motorcycle in Sydney, Australia, on Monday, 1 March at 10.30pm GMT. The jump will be broadcast live from Australia across the globe via www.harleyworldrecordjump.com and post-event video will be shown on Harley-Davidson's YouTube channel and to Harley's half-million Facebook fans.
"To many, Evel Knievel was the original extreme athlete - long before there were extreme sports," said Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer. "This latest generation of riders still revere Knievel - even as they attempt to smash his records."
Viewers can log onto www.harleyworldrecordjump.com to see Enslow's jump streamed live. Or check out www.youtube.com/harleydavidson or www.facebook.com/harley-davidson for the post-event video.

Last month, Harley-Davidson launched its brand new factory-custom motorcycle, the Forty-Eight™. The Sportster-inspired bike is ideal for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts who like the idea of riding a custom motorcycle, but don't have the time to spend on customisation...
Riding low and featuring the classic 7.95 litre "peanut" fuel tank, the Forty-Eight backs up its bulldog appearance with the performance of its blacked and polished rubber-mounted Evolution™ 1200 cc V-Twin engine. The low solo seat, under-bar mounted mirrors, clean rear fender and fat balloon tyres emphasise the Forty Eight's focus on chiselled customisation.
It certainly looks the part, but, what do you think of it?
Last month, more than 400 e-Zine readers registered their vote for their favourite Harley-Davidson® motorcycle. However, the Road King® proved itself to be a true King, with nearly 25% of the total votes!
